A quick overview of LifeCare's policy on how to manage incidents.

What is an Incident?
We think of incidents as something out of the "norm" that happens with a patient that occurs during or immediately before/after a patient visit in which you become involved in some way. Here are some common incidents that we see.
High/low blood pressure
An injury/fall occurs just before or just after your visit
A fall during therapy with or without injury
Patient with a skin tear and you administered a band aid.
Anything that happens that you are a witness to or participate in that is outside of your "normal" therapy is considered to be an Incident.
What You Need to Do:
Report to the LifeCare Admin Team (Elisha, Marika and/or Connie)
Report to Supervising Therapist if there is one on case
Complete Incident Report within 24 hours (we will send you the link)
Do not leave the patient until incident is resolved.
Quick Tips:
You can quickly access the phone number for all staff by clicking on their profile picture/name in HUCU.
If a patient is refusing 911 but their vitals are unstable, call Anyways! Tell them you are mandated to call and let the paramedics check them out. They can refuse paramedics as they have a form patient signs refusing treatment but we do not have that. This is for your protection and for the protection of the patient.
