Why Safety Matters
Federal OSHA standards require healthcare employers to provide hazard recognition and safety training, including training related to bloodborne pathogens and hazardous chemicals.

Unlike clinic settings, LifeCare personnel work alone in unfamiliar environments where they may encounter:
Infectious diseases
Unsanitary conditions
Aggressive pets
Unsafe neighborhoods
Environmental hazards
Chemical exposures
Violence or threatening behavior
Driving hazards
Ergonomic injuries
OSHA's General Duty Clause requires employers to provide a workplace free from recognized hazards likely to cause serious harm. This obligation extends to home healthcare workers. This course provides information on the types of hazards they may face and policies and protocols for responding.
Learning Objectives
At the completion of this training, participants will be able to:
Identify biological, chemical, physical, safety, and psychosocial hazards encountered in home-based outpatient therapy.
Recognize early warning signs of hazardous situations.
Apply LifeCare safety procedures to reduce risk.
Select appropriate control measures and personal protective equipment (PPE).
Report hazards, incidents, exposures, and injuries promptly.
Demonstrate compliance with OSHA and agency safety requirements.
