Clinic Plan: Fire

LifeCare's response plan and staff responsibilities for a fire or suspected fire in our building or regions

dg

OVERVIEW

In the event of a fire, LifeCare’s immediate interest is to protect the safety of all persons within the facility. Fire and safety are the responsibility of every staff member, and all staff are expected to know the location of the nearest fire alarm and fire extinguisher.

POLICY

LifeCare will evacuate, and/or assist in the evacuation of, all persons on site in the event of an internal or external disaster when evacuation is necessary to protect life. A staff member may attempt to extinguish a small, contained fire if there is no personal risk.

PROCESS

In the event of a fire or a suspected fire (smoke without flames or a smoke odor), the first person will set off the fire alarm to initiate evacuation. This individual, in addition to their existing staff responsibilities, must initiate a 911 call when beginning the safe evacuation from the building (using a mobile phone/not an office phone).\

Staff also have the following responsibilities:

• Front Office Staff is to take the Visitor / Patient Log

• Management is to check restrooms and private treatment rooms

• Meeting location is in the parking area in front of the Center

• If shelter is needed, Tamarac Elementary School is the designated shelter.

In the event of an actual emergency (not a drill), re-entry to the building will not be permitted until the local fire or policy authority gives clearance. If this occurs, staff are responsible for coordinating transportation for patients and clients. Staff will remain on-site until the disposition of patients, clients, or visitors is completed.
